Julia Malischnig inspired with multifaceted guitar art in the Theater am Saumarkt
FELDKIRCH At her eagerly awaited performance at the Theater am Saumarkt, the Carinthian guitarist, composer and singer excelled Julia Malischnig herself and affirmed that she is rightly considered one of the leading musicians on the current guitar scene.
The highlights of their performance included the “Canti Carinthiae”, lovingly performed Carinthian songs. The Carinthian, who was awarded the Grand Honorary Prize of the State of Carinthia in 2022, played several compositions from the current album: The title track “Canti Carinthiae” was presented with dizzying dexterity and emotional expressiveness, as were “Mneme – die Muße der memories” and “Hasapiko – de Love is a Traman”. The virtuoso guitarist has a love for Argentine tango, and her guitar versions of Astor Piazzolla’s “La Cumparsita” and “La muerte del Ángel” received frenetic applause from the audience.
Not only did her own compositions like “Aladina” and “The Kiss of Life” inspire, but Malischnig proved with Isaac Albeniz “Asturias” that she can also play classical guitar works masterfully and with expressive dynamics on her Carinthian guitar. As an encore, the guitar artist played the virtuoso piece “Cape of good hope”. Composed in South Africa, the dedicated musician’s work looks hopefully into the future and is based on the realization that where there is darkness, there must also be light.
Malischnig used all the techniques and stylistic devices that the fretboard of classical guitar art has in store. Among the many guests at the brilliant performance, which came about in cooperation with the Feldkirch specialist music shop “drumo”, were its managing directors Wolfgang Ludescher with wife Edith as well as Alvin Hagen from the Music School Feldkirch and Carlos Peralta from the music school in Bregenz.
