After a long break, the diesel criminal trial against four former Volkswagen executives continues today. The maternity leave of a member of the court had made the break in the hearing necessary. In the complex process, which began in September 2021, further witnesses are now to be heard.

Even before that, the fraud process, which in the best case should bring clarification for “Dieselgate” at VW, had repeatedly come to a standstill. Either appointments were canceled due to coronavirus infections, or planned witnesses invoked their right to refuse to testify because they themselves were accused in subsequent diesel trials.

The four defendants are accused, among other things, of commercial and gang fraud with deceptive programs in the exhaust gas control of millions of diesel cars.
