Nuevo Casas Grandes.- One of the municipalities in the Northwest that is most pending the end of Title 42, tentatively this Thursday, May 11 at 11:59 p.m., is Ascensión, which has endured the onslaught of more of 3,000 migrants expelled by the United States at the Puerto Palomas de Villa border.
“We are waiting for that political condition in the United States to end, with the opportunity to give asylum to migrants and then be able to close the shelter that we had to set up in Puerto Palomas de Villa to care for them,” warned the Director of Protection Civilian, Edgar Saúl Carrillo Apodaca.
The official clarified that of the total of those expelled by the United States through the border with Ascension, in reality only 10 percent of the migrants are from other countries such as Colombia, El Salvador, Venezuela and other South American nations, while the other 90 percent These are Mexican nationals who come from other states of the Republic.
Of the Central American migrants, the Director of Civil Protection in Ascension pointed out that although the majority will try to re-enter the United States, others give up and choose to return to their countries of origin, for which the Municipal Government of Ascension itself in agreement with the Ómnibus de México company, offers them a discount so that the return is less expensive.
However, in the shelter that was set up on the instructions of the Municipal President, Ivonne de la Hoya Venzor, there are still some that the municipal official said, “they don’t know what to do”, and they have been inside the shelter for a month, these being 4 Venezuelans and 4 Hondurans.
