The Russian president asked his government to “ensure the creation of museums dedicated to the events of the special military operation and the exploits of its participants”.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered his government to set about creating museums dedicated to Moscow’s year-long offensive in Ukraine, according to instructions published on the Kremlin website.

“Ensuring the creation of museums (regional, municipal, on the basis of educational organizations) dedicated to the events of the special military operation and the exploits of its participants”, can we read in this document dated Wednesday but appeared this Thursday on the Kremlin website.

The “special military operation” is the name Russia gives to its attack on Ukraine, launched in February 2022.

A series of repressive laws since the start of the offensive

Vladimir Putin also ordered to “examine the issue of the transfer of objects related to the special military operation that can be exhibited in museums”.

The government will also have to “examine the question of organizing a study of the history of the special military operation” within the framework of the education system.

Since the beginning of its offensive in Ukraine, Russia has adopted a series of repressive laws intended to muzzle any criticism, in particular a text punishing the “discreditation” of the army. Several people, opponents or simply anonymous, received heavy prison sentences.

Already special courses at school

The authorities have also multiplied social aid for combatants and their families and introduced special courses at school intended to promote the arguments of power among young people.

Past Russian military exploits, especially during the Second World War, are already the subject of countless museums, exhibitions and monuments.

Russia recently launched a military recruitment campaign on the streets and on social networks. A new law was voted in just two days to facilitate a new mobilization in the army.
