Twitter CEO Elon Musk has announced via a tweet that accounts that have been inactive for several years will begin to be purged from the social media platform. In response to comments on the original tweet, Musk explained that the accounts will be archived, although it is unclear exactly what that means, but that it needs to be done to free up abandoned usernames.
We’re purging accounts that have had no activity at all for several years, so you will probably see follower count drop

Currently, an account is counted as inactive per Twitter policy if it hasn’t logged into the site in the last 30 days, and it also says that accounts that have been inactive for longer periods of time may be removed.
