A webcam image showing the supposed major fire of an alpine inn in the Villach-Land district triggered a large-scale operation by a total of 8 fire brigades on Friday night.

Fog made lighting look like fire

On the live image showing the inn, the outside lighting was gone fog and snowfall looked like fire, said the volunteer fire brigade in Judendorf on Facebook.

It was only discovered that it was a false alarm when the fire brigades got over the heavily snowed-in area Villacher Alpenstraße had come to the scene. The fire brigades in Judendorf, Arnoldstein, Bad Bleiberg, Bleiberg-Kreuth, Fellach, Nötsch, Pogöriach and the main fire station in Villach moved away again, and the operation ended around 1:30 a.m.
