A 32-year-old man is being intensively searched for in Lago Argentino, in the Santa Cruz city of El Calafate, after having disappeared on Saturday afternoon when he went out to practice his kayak and never returned.

The search is carried out by members of the Argentine Naval Prefecture who announced in the last hours the appearance of the kayak and a life jacket.

The kayaker was identified as Fabián Pérez, a native of Chaco and based in El Calafate for a few years where he works as a tourist transport driver.

According to official sources, the man registered his arrival with the Santa Cruz Police with the idea of ​​crossing to the Solitary Island by kayak, it was confirmed that he never returned and, from that moment, the search began.

The operation includes PNA troops displaced by land and water. The first is being carried out by personnel from the Division, Rural Operations and Operational Units of the Southwest Regional.

Given the disappearance of the man, it was reported in a statement that the Fiesta del Lago triathlon was suspended: “Due to facts of public knowledge, the Fiesta del Lago Triathlon is suspended while the security forces continue the search for the person disappeared”.

As reported by the Santa Cruz Police, the PNA began the search because Pérez “registered with the aforementioned authority in order to kayak” and did not return “until now.”

“According to information provided by a family member who alerted that force, he was lost sight of in the Punta Soberana area,” they said.

The provincial police added that “the first indications of the search resulted in the finding of the kayak and the vest, but not of the person.”
