On January 19, the National Strike began in Peru and since then a series of protesters have blocked around 83 transportation routes throughout the entire national territory, as reported by the Superintendence of Land Transportation of People, Cargo and Merchandise (Sutran). In Lima, for example, a large group of dealers has already had several confrontations with police officers. However, a new announcement has called for a new march next Tuesday, January 24.

It is nothing less than a publication made on the official channel of the General Confederation of Workers of Peru (CGTP), which formalizes a meeting of the dealers in the Plaza Dos de Mayo of the Center of Lima that seeks the resignation of Dina Boluarte and the Board of Directors of the Congress.

“We call on the entire working class to mobilize nationwide on January 24 for the resignation of Dina Boluarte and the Board of Directors of the Congress, for the cessation of criminal repression and the opening of a constituent process through a referendum for a Constituent Assembly. In Lima, the concentration will be at 4 in the afternoon in Plaza Dos de Mayo”, reads the CGTP Facebook post.

What are the regions that join the march?

At the moment it is known that citizens of the provinces of Cajamarca, Apurímac, Lambayeque, Puno and Cusco are preparing to travel to Lima and be able to join the protests on January 24.

More than 50 dead in protests

It should be noted that to date more than 50 deaths have been confirmed as a result of clashes between the Police and the marchers. Likewise, there are dozens of people injured, including police officers and protesters.

As recalled, since Sunday, January 15, the Executive ordered a state of emergency in Lima, Callao, Puno and Cusco and will be valid for 30 calendar days.
