For 45 years, Romeo’s Cuban Restaurantin the south of Floridaserved the Cuban community in Broward County, but last Thursday it closed its doors permanently, leaving its loyal followers devastated.

According to Telemundothe Broward County Sheriff’s Office issued an eviction order for the business, as indicated in a notice posted on the door and in court documents.

A letter posted outside the establishment at Coquina Plaza, at 6800 Dykes Road, announced the closure of the Cuban restaurant.

“During these 45 years in the market, you have been more than customers to us. They have become our family”, noted the text.

“We have faced many challenges in the past, but the current state of the economy makes it increasingly difficult to keep up with the costs of running our store,” the letter stated.

Romeu’s Cuban Restaurant’s alleged debt amounts to more than $82,000 in rent paymentsaccording to court documents.

It breaks our hearts to have to say goodbyebut we have to prioritize the financial stability of our family,” the text noted.

According to Telemundothe restaurant recently shared a customer’s Instagram Story thanking them for years of comfort food and stating: “The worst day ever”.

In 1978 the history of this restaurant began with several locations in the county of Miami-Dade before settling in Broward.

Until its closure, Romeo’s Cuban Restaurant It offered meeting rooms for parties, takeaway service, home delivery and a range of services for birthdays, weddings and baptisms. Additionally, they collaborate with churches and business groups.

This isn’t the only Florida food icon to say goodbye lately.
