Several beaches on Australia’s west coast remain temporarily closed after a suspected shark attack. The beaches between Pilgramunna and Bloodwood Creek in Cape Range National Park near Exmouth have been closed due to a shark incident, Western Australia officials said yesterday.

A snorkeler was injured after being bitten by an unidentified species of shark in the water off Kurrajong campsite, sources said. Around the time of the incident, lifeguard organization Surf Life Saving also reported a shark sighting in the area near shore.

According to the local news portal Perth Now, the injured person is an eleven-year-old boy. The extent of his injury is not known, but his condition is stable. He was flown to a hospital in Perth, 1,300 kilometers south, on Saturday evening.

23-year-old professional surfer Max Marsden reported on Instagram about a recent shark attack in Geraldton, about 800 kilometers south of Exmouth. The 1.5 meter shark grabbed his arm and injured it, but after hitting his head and with the help of a friend, he was able to save himself on the coast, Marsden reported to the Perth Now portal.
