Last December, the Regulatory Authority for Audiovisual and Digital Communication (Arcom) welcomed the fact that the French are increasingly turning to legal offers for the consumption of dematerialized cultural goods. But let’s face it, piracy is far from having said its last word, and it remains the norm for many Internet users.

The top 10 most pirated series

Faced with the explosion in the number of streaming platforms, consuming a pirated work is becoming commonplace. This is in any case what emerges from a very interesting study carried out by our colleagues from TorrentFreak. As they have become accustomed to, the latter achieved a top 10 of the most pirated series in 2022.

Unsurprisingly, it was the original creations that sold best this year. We can therefore very well imagine that a person is a customer of a streaming service but resorts to piracy to view another because he does not have the means to pay for a subscription. So without further ado, here are the top 10 of this year:

1) House of the Dragon2) The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power3) The Boys4) Moon Knight5) Halo6) Obi-Wan Kenobi7) The Book of Boba Fett8) Stranger Things9) she hulk10) Andor.

This ranking will not surprise you if you are used to following series news on lemon squeezer. These are the most popular programs of the year, although some are thought to The Book of Boba Fettor to she hulkdid not really convince the general public and the critics.

Piracy affects most of the major streaming players, such as HBO, Amazon Prime Video, but also Netflix, and Disney+. If the shortfall is obvious for these platforms, piracy can also sometimes contribute to the popularization of a series, and therefore later generate new subscriptions for a service.

Are there too many streaming platforms?

It’s also worth noting that this ranking is for BitTorrent traffic, so it only partly reflects the piracy landscape. The latter is also practiced via illegal streaming sites, but also with the numerous IPTV offers, which are also very often illegal.

Moreover, some pirate groups do not hesitate to attack platforms and major studios head-on. In 2021, the EVO collective made headlines by explaining: “Maybe if studios cared a little more about the consumer, there wouldn’t be a lot of piracy on the internet. But they don’t care anymore, what matters is profit, profit and profit. If you’re an average person these days, basically either you’re rich or you’re a loser down the line. It’s Disney+, it’s Netflix, it’s Prime, it’s Paramount+. God knows what else they will come up with. »

Words which are of course not unanimous but which have the merit of putting their feet in the dish.
