Putting together a vacation activity calendar can be a challenge. Therefore, if you plan to travel this summer 2023 to Jujuyspecifically to its capital, San Salvador de Jujuy, we recommend some proposals -with free admission- to enjoy the province to the fullest.

Sightseeing visits to the historic center of the capital of Jujuy or to an old municipal cemetery – witness to the culture, myths and urban legends in the city – are part of the summer agenda that San Salvador de Jujuy offers for the enjoyment of tourists.

Summer 2023 in Jujuy: What are the free activities?

The tours are carried out from Monday to Saturday, they are completely free and can be done without prior reservation, according to the local Tourism Directorate when opening the invitation to participate in them.

The starting point is a Tourist Information Office of the capital municipality, located in the vicinity of the Manuel Belgrano Cultural Center (former Old Train Station), one block from the central square of Jujuy. Those interested should only show up at said location 10 minutes before the tour to be carried out.

The circuit through the “Historical Center” takes you to see the emblematic buildings and monuments located in the downtown area of the capital city, such as the Government House, with its Flag Hall, and the Cathedral Church, with a baroque and romantic style, declared National Historical Heritage on 16 May 1931, among others.

The free departures take place from Monday to Friday, at 10 and 11, and on Saturdays at 10.

El Salvador Cemetery

The El Salvador Cemetery was inaugurated in 1907 by the municipality to put an end to the Spanish custom of burying the dead in churches.

It is shown with a door on a marble staircase supported by four Tuscan columns and inside it leads to an interesting walk through tombstones and mausoleums as old as the cemetery itself, with stories that fly over the place and its deceased that trap visitors day to day.

The Grupo Ecomuseo adds tours around the city center and also tours full of mysticism to the El Salvador municipal cemetery, which take place from Monday to Sunday at 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. For this proposal, it is necessary to reserve a place in advance.

San Salvador de Jujuy means for visitors, especially during the summer season, a connection point and a base to get to know other destinations in the province, such as the area of Los Diques, just 27 kilometers to the south, or to go later to the visited Quebrada de Humahuaca or the green and no less captivating Yungas region.
