Adaptable, timeless, transformative and welcoming were the concepts that were established to designate molly the color of the year 2023, according to ColorLife Trends, the trending shades developed by a group of experts convened by the Comex company.

The color of the year 2023 represents versatility, which flows, which achieves many shades and which transforms depending on the light source, communicating flexibility and fluidity. It generates feelings of joy and new cycles by being elastic, moldable, expandable, and able to adapt to the personality.

For 2023, the panel of creatives that selected the trends that defined the ColorLife TRENDS 2023 shade palettes as well as the color of the year, was composed of:

The particularities of the color of the year

Specialists decided that Moly A5-10 is the color of the year 2023, is a neutral purple that, despite not being a saturated or vibrant color, appeals to joy and new cycles, as he told EconoHabitat Claudia Garibay, guide and expert at the Show Room Comex.

“Moly, it reminds us of spring and early jacaranda trees before they bloom. It is a color that synthesizes many of the reflections on feminism as a transformative movement that integrates and lets be. It is a magical and kind color”, mentioned the expert.

Garibay explained that although Moly considers himself a neutral color a point of humor and warmth is perceived, fundamental characteristics to adapt to the unpredictable and flow with a reality whose only constant is change. He said that it is the feeling that people have after experiencing the movement ban generated by the Covid-19 pandemic.

By 2023 we flow into new social and personal structures. We adopt other ways of relating, and we live with different expressions of diversity.

Likewise, Moly includes artificial dimensions that speak to us of digital landscapes and metaverse environments, especially at a time when we transit between the digital and physical worlds, fearlessly diluting the limits of reality.

“The color of the year 2023 has metameric qualities, that is, its perception changes depending on the light source, which is why it communicates versatility. It moves between many colors in a subtle way, without having to define itself as one or the other; it is elastic, mouldable, expandable, but, above all, customizable”, mentioned Garibay.

What are the trends for the year 2023?

The trend creation process is carried out through a four-day workshop, where not only leaders from different creative industries participate, but also expert institutions in content solutions and experiences for cosmopolitan audiences such as the creative agency. Atelier, to provide the assembled experts with a vision of what is happening in the world, after analyzing and discussing the issues and situations that are driving the future of design in Mexico.

Once the analysis is done, the participating creatives select the color palettes using this information as a base, which results in 4 trends made up of 9 colors each and a color of the year.

The creatives selected four trends for the year 2023 through 36 shades and were developed under the guiding principle of fluidity:

The Plasma trend is a Color palette cheerful and flexible and seeks to flow naturally between the different exterior and interior environments. The colors seek to support recreation, in addition to transmitting tranquility with their neutrals that lower anxiety levels and heart rate, mentioned Claudia Garibay.

Likewise, the Glitch trend is futuristic colors for spaces that need a touch of modernity, high contrasts and surprising decorations. The creatives sought in Glitch to detect the contrast, the disconnected and the unexpected add richness to this trend. Its more vivid tones stimulate creativity and dynamism and, depending on its application, offer a balance between activity and passivity. Transform the traditional into contemporary and fun, look for beauty from the spontaneous and give sudden accents of color that cause surprise.

While the Magma trend is a striking color palette, which gives visibility and invites dialogue and appropriation. Its hot and bright tones provide warmth, manage to create atmospheres of comfort, empathy and participation while the blues stimulate creative reflection and dialogue. The complete range tells us about regenerative spaces, with energy, strength and brilliance.

The Climax trend offers a balanced color palette without being boring. Its shades communicate comfort and invite touch, while its colors flow with sensuality and the idea of ​​sumptuous spaces. It transmits warmth, sophistication and softness in spaces, generating sensations of calm, joy, tenderness, delicacy.
