Anis Ayari, an artificial intelligence engineer, used an artificial intelligence to reproduce the voice of Emmanuel Macron singing “Yesterday again” by Charles Aznavour.

If artificial intelligences can make Kanye West and Drake sing anything, this is also the case for Emmanuel Macron. Anis Ayari, artificial intelligence engineer and youtuber, thus managed to make Charles Aznavour’s “Yesterday again” sing to the President of the Republic by duplicating the voice of the latter through an artificial intelligence.

A deep-fake of stunning quality that could make people believe that Emmanuel Macron really gave voice.

“I am very interested in generative artificial intelligence technology and I based myself on open source work”, says Anis Ayari, guest of Tech&Co on May 9, to explain the genesis of this project. “Little by little, the technology has evolved to arrive, in 2023, at a stage that I describe as ‘premature’: that is to say that there are bits of code lying around on the Internet that allow people who know a little bit of coding to produce this kind of thing”

Dizzying prospects

To clone the voice of Emmanuel Macron, Anis Ayari says he recovered speech sequences from the President of the Republic which he then integrated into deep learning algorithms. “We train these algorithms for a few hours. Then you get a model, like a small safe, in which we put any audio that will be translated with the voice of Emmanuel Macron”, summarizes Anis Ayari.

“You should know that the President of the Republic is the public figure for whom it is the easiest to clone the voice because he makes public speeches with very good sound quality”, underlines the engineer. Following this video, public figures asked Anis Ayari if this technology could be applied to their personal case. “For example, singers wonder if they still have to spend hours in the studio…”, explains Anis Ayari for whom this technology is set to evolve exponentially.

In the coming weeks, we will have interfaces that will allow everyone to generate audios of this type (…) I also want to warn that with these tools, I can make the president say what I want of the French Republic. We have entered the era of ‘fake’ accessible to all”.
