The economic participation of Mexican mothers is different in each state of the country, in Baja California Sur it amounts to 54.2%, while in Chiapas it is reduced to 33.9%, reported the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (imco).

Derived from Mother’s daythe institute released a study on the situation in the labor market, for example, 58% of mothers in the states work informally compared to 50% of women without children.

“This implies that they have limited access to social security, face legal uncertainty and receive lower income,” the study deepens.

On average, mothers who work in the informal sector earn 3,202 pesos per month, against 6,267 pesos per month for those who work in the formal sector.

“The average monthly income of women who are mothers decreases as the number of children increases. Mothers who have five or more children receive an average monthly income of 3,793 pesos, which is equivalent to almost half the monthly income of a woman without children, which amounts to 7,508 pesos per month”, points out the Imco study.

Regarding the states where there are greater opportunities and, therefore, greater formal labor participation of women who are mothers, after Baja California Sur are Colima with 52.3%, Nayarit with 51.5%, Yucatán with 49%, Oaxaca with 47.9%, Sonora with 47.8%, Mexico City with 47.3%, and Tlaxcala with 46.8%, Quintana Roo with 46.7%, Baja California with 46.5%, Hidalgo with 46.2 percent.
