Born in Burbank, California, on November 8, 1949, Bonnie is the daughter of Broadway star John Raitt. After picking up the guitar at age 12, Raitt felt an immediate affinity for the blues, dropping out of college to begin playing the Boston folk and blues club circuit.

He debuted in 1971 with a self-titled album. Since then Raitt has been applauded not only for her voice and her careful selection of songs, but also for her prowess on the guitar.

Raitt is also recognized as a dedicated antiwar and environmental activist . His 1972 album Give It Up had a dedication “to the people of North Vietnam…” printed on the back. She was a visible leader in the anti-nuclear power movement and has supported several Democratic politicians.

Throughout his career of more than 5 decades in which he is credited with having created “a distinctly soulful hybrid of blues, rock and R&B” he has released 18 studio albums: Just Like That… of 2022 is the most recent.

The inspiration for the self-titled record and single came from a story the author saw on the news about a woman who was about to meet the recipient of her son’s heart for the first time. “It was the most moving and amazing thing. “Every time I hear about a family donating organs when their child has been murdered, or there is some kind of sudden death, like you’re not sad and shocked enough, I think that having the vision, compassion and love to be able to paying it off like that is so amazing,” adds Raitt, “and the kindness of the recipient, and what it must feel like for them.”

He has already received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and was ranked number 50 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time, as well as the 100 Greatest Guitarists.

In 2000 she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with this description: “the singer and activist healing the world with her blues roots. Bonnie Raitt, one of the greatest singers and guitarists of all time, is a brave, resilient, and with prodigious talent.”
