From a staunch opponent and unconditional defender of the Government of Pedro Castillo. This was the transformation of the congresswoman Heidy Juarez Calle (not grouped), who went from opposing the ex-president to supporting him with his votes after he approved the preparation of three million-dollar works that she requested, according to a report from the journalistic program Panorama.

According to the Sunday newspaper, on June 1 of last year, the legislator sent a letter to the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), then chaired by Óscar Graham, to request the financing of four projects for 80 million soles for her region. (Piura).

That same month he met with the then Prime Minister Aníbal Torres and, shortly after, on August 4, the Government approved, through a Supreme Decree, the financing of a list of works that included three of the four required.

Before that happens, Juárez voted on May 3, 2022 in favor of the first vacancy motion against Castillo and to question Torres. In addition, until the first half of last year, he questioned the Government through social networks and other means, according to Panorama.

However, after three of the four projects requested were approved, the congresswoman’s change was radical. For example, on September 23 they voted against the censure of former Interior Minister Willy Huerta, on October 13 they voted the same for the interpellation of former Foreign Minister César Landa and on November 17 they voted in favor of authorizing Pedro Castillo Travel to Mexico.

I don’t remember, I would have to review my notes and the dates to give you a conclusive answer”, Juárez responded when asked about these three votes after the Supreme Decree.

WHO IS HEYDY JUAREZ?

Juárez is a 38-year-old lawyer who came to Parliament as a congresswoman for Piura with Alianza para el Progreso (APP), in July 2021, but that party expelled her in September last year after accusing her of treason, accused of having leaked the audios between the then president of Congress, Lady Camones, and César Acuña.

In an APP statement it was reported that they have also evaluated the “unfortunate attendance” of Heidy Juárez at the Government Palace, a fact that, they said, “adds to her reprehensible attitude of favoring the government of President Pedro Castillo.”

After that, last November she became Minister for Women, a position she held until Castillo launched a self-coup on December 7.
