There will be no tax increases with the FDP, that is the party’s credo. With that, the Liberals entered the coalition negotiations. And they use it for their arguments in the traffic light budget dispute.

An exchange of letters between Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) and Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) recently became public. In it, the two cabinet partners are also arguing on behalf of their respective parties about compliance with the debt brake.

The core question is whether and how more income can be generated and which projects should have priority. The departments have additional requests worth billions. Lindner himself has spoken out in favor of reducing the burden on the economy and has announced a “tax growth package”.
