A “Who wants to be a millionaire?” candidate tried to reach her desired telephone joker on Monday evening – without success. How did the glitch come about?
Frances Schoppe-Müller made it onto the “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?” guessing chair on Monday evening and quizzed his way up to the 125,000 euro question. When Günther Jauch wanted to know: “Anyone who wants to start an apprenticeship with the Federal Police needs at least what grades on their last school report? A) Politics: 1, Maths: 2, B) Maths: 2, Sports: 3, C) Sports: 3 , German: 4 or D) German: 4, history: 5” she stumbled.
A joker should help: Frances Schoppe-Müller decided to call her friend Bastian Zadov – but that turned out to be more difficult than expected. After only two busy signals could be heard, a woman’s voice suddenly answered. “I’m grandma,” explained the person called. “Is he near you or is he not allowed to answer the phone all by himself?” Jauch asked with laughter from the audience.
Telefonjoker remains missing
“I’ll run upstairs quickly, he lives here with me,” Grandma offered to help, but despite the search, the telephone joker was lost. So the candidate had to switch to an alternative and ultimately got out with 64,000 euros.
In the meantime, Bastian Zadov has reappeared. He explained to “Bild”: “I was with my parents and waited for the call because I can say from experience that I have reception there.” That was obviously not the case. His wife sent him a message and he immediately set off, but by then it was too late.
“I didn’t become a millionaire because of him”
Bastian Zadov honestly admitted that he would have had to guess the question anyway and guessed the wrong answer. After the missed opportunity to help the candidate and to speak to Jauch personally, he was still “very upset and a little mad at myself”.
And Frances Schoppe-Muller? She took it sporty: “I told him everything is fine. I assumed that none of my phone jokers would know and I would have gotten out anyway. So I didn’t become a millionaire because of him,” she told the newspaper.
