The new DCU regularly makes headlines. The casting decisions for the MCU equivalent from DC are often the focus of the reports. Henry Cavill’s failed return as Superman had been criticized and debated again and again, with criticism against James Gunn included. Now, once again, a rumor is making the rounds as to who will take on the role of Clark Kent in the upcoming Superman movie.

Who will be the new Superman?

According to The Hollywood Reporter David Corenswet currently in the running for the role. Although it is emphasized that two other actors are currently competing with Corenswet for the position, they are not named. In January, Jacob Elodri landed as a name in the discourse surrounding the casting process. However, The Hollywood Reporter notes that Elodri never signed up for the role himself.

Apart from Corenswet, first names are mentioned for a few other characters in the new film. While Nicholas Hoult comes up as a candidate for Lex Luthor, there are plenty of casting opportunities for Lois Lane with Emma Mackey, Samara Weaving, Phoebe Dynevor or Rachel Brosnahan. According to Justin Kroll, who writes for Deadline film magazine, Hoult isn’t aiming for the role of Lex Luthor, but of Superman. It remains to be seen who will ultimately star in the first Superman flick under the wings of James Gunn and Peter Safran.
