• Extraordinary is available on Disney+ since January 23, 2023
    • In a world where everyone has superpowers, Jen has none and desperately searches for hers.
    • Funny, fresh and light, it’s the perfect series to relax

With the proliferation of SVODs, new series are released regularly and it even sometimes becomes complicated to be up to date. While the world’s eyes are on The Last of Us every Monday (for good reason), other content is more discreet in the shadow of the HBO series. And that’s a shame !

If you want to relax this weekend, we have found the ideal series: Extraordinary on Disney+. Coming straight from the United Kingdom, this new nugget should make you smile and even make you burst out laughing. In a world where everyone has superpowers when they turn 18, Jen (25) has none. Inevitably, this creates particularly comical and hilarious situations.

From the first minute, without exaggerating, the bases are laid: we will chain the laughter. The series opens with a job interview in which the protagonist demonstrates unfailing frankness. Thereby, Extraordinary brings a real breath of fresh air and a very pleasant lightness at the start of the year.

In view of the synopsis of the series, superpowers are obviously at the heart ofExtraordinary. But don’t think that the world of the series is populated by Superman and Captain America. Very quickly, we realize that the superpowers of this world are, for the most part, absurd or useless. We meet, in particular, a man capable of making anyone come just by touching him, another who has the gift of summoning marine beings (but that’s all) or even Jen’s mother who can control the technologies (if only she understood something about it).

However, not having power, however nil it may be, creates a daily exclusion that Jen finds difficult. As a result, the protagonist embarks on a (desperate) search for her own power. To help her in this quest, she can count on her roommates: Carrie, who can come into contact with the dead, and Kash, able to go back in time by a few seconds. But with such a band of broken arms, the task is difficult. And therefore hilarious for the viewer.

Extraordinary, our favorite

Whether Extraordinary is not without reminding us Misfits (with its British humor and endearing losers with superpowers), the series finds a kind of depth and sensitivity behind the sequence of hilarious and absurd situations that make us think of flea bag.

In addition to not having a superpower (or because of it?), Jen goes through inglorious moments. She lives in the shadow of her little half-sister, obviously much more gifted than her in everything she undertakes. She falls in love with a boy who has nothing to do with her and whom she always meets in the worst situations, and she gets stuck in a rotten job. Finally, even if we don’t live in a world where superpowers are the norm, we quickly identify with Jen who is simply looking for her place in the world, despite her differences. And behind our laughter, the protagonist touches our hearts several times.

Thus, the perfect balance between humor and the sensitivity ofExtraordinary pushes us to chain the 8 episodes of this successful first season. To sublimate the whole, the series benefits from an electric soundtrack and a colorful photograph. Everything we love ! Good news, the series has already been renewed and a second burst of episodes is expected in the coming years.

Available on Disney+ (Star), Extraordinary stands out as our favorite of the beginning of the year. Perched, extremely funny and feel good, the series is made to unplug our brains for four hours and give us a good time. Perfect for this weekend.
