You are currently viewing Will Formula 1 soon be running exclusively on Apple TV+?

Apple is becoming increasingly sporty in its Apple TV+ program. Will a top sport be added?

A new leak shows that the Californian company is offering $2 billion a year to get the exclusive broadcast rights for Formula 1. The aim is to use this sum to outpace all other bidders.

No 100 percent exclusivity right from the start

Currently, global TV broadcasts “only” cost around $1 billion. Initially, Apple would take 25 percent of the streaming package secure, say insiders.

Waiting for other contracts to expire

Over time, as other contracts expire, the group’s shareholding would increase to 100 percent. The deal is said to not have been completed yet.

But Formula 1 would significantly improve the sports programming on Apple TV+, which was recently massively upgraded with exclusive streaming rights to the US Major Soccer League. So maybe the MSL coup with Lionel Messi was just the beginning.
