Microsoft is now following Patch Day Tuesday with new updates for Windows 11 insiders in the Release Preview and Beta channels. In addition to a large number of bug fixes, the patches also show up with new functions for widgets, settings and presence sensors.

Release Preview Channel: Widgets, Firewall & Co.

Insiders can use the Release Preview channel to get the new Windows 11 Build 22621.1631 (KB5025305) which, among other things, adds animation to the widget buttons inside the taskbar. The update also changes various firewall settings, which means that rules for application groups can be configured with immediate effect.

Furthermore, the Redmond company releases a long list of bug fixes, which we have attached at the bottom of this article. The update is only available for users of Windows 11 22H2, while the “original release” is on build 22000.1879 (KB5025298) is raised and has to do without some of the new features.

Beta Channel: Settings for occupancy sensors

The two Windows 11 Insider Preview Builds 22624.1610 and 22621.1610 (KB5025299) ready, optionally with activated or deactivated new functions. In this update round, Microsoft makes it possible to make various data protection settings for compatible presence sensors. This type of sensors can determine whether users are in front of the screen or absent. In the settings it is now possible to restrict the app access to the sensors or to deactivate the function completely. In addition, Microsoft makes it clear that all the associated recordings of the users are processed locally on the device hardware and neither images nor metadata are collected by the Redmonders.

Last but not least, Windows 11 Insiders get a new button within the Windows Update settings, which, depending on the channel, makes it possible to receive future non-security updates much faster (Release Preview) or to activate the activation package for new functions (Beta).
