Winner takes home record $1.3 billion Powerball jackpot

MONKS – One person won the coveted prize of $1.3 billion in the Powerball lottery of the United States, marking the end of a drought of more than three months without grand prize winners.

The lucky numbers revealed in Sunday’s morning draw were 22, 27, 44, 52, 69 and 9 on the red Powerball ball.

Since New Year’s, no one had managed to win the prize, which meant a series of 41 consecutive draws without a winner, matching the streaks recorded in 2022 and 2021.

This prize becomes the eighth largest in US lottery history and will be awarded in annual payments for 30 years if the winner so chooses. Opting for a one-time cash payment means receiving an impressive $608.9 million. It is important to note that these prizes are subject to federal taxes, and many states also tax lottery winnings.

As the prizes increase, the competition intensifies, making it even more difficult to win the jackpot. The odds of winning this draw were one in 292.2 million.

The drawing, originally scheduled for Saturday night, was delayed and held at the Florida Lottery studio shortly before 2:30 a.m. to allow one of the organizers to complete the required procedures before the time. scheduled for 10:59, as indicated by Powerball in a statement.

“Powerball’s game rules require that each ticket sold in the country be verified in two different computer systems before the winning numbers are drawn,” the statement said. “This is done to ensure that every ticket sold has an equal chance of winning in the Powerball drawing. Tonight, we have a jurisdiction that needs additional time to complete that pre-drawing process.”

Powerball is played in 45 states, as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, attracting a growing number of buyers and tickets as the prizes increase.
