The President of the National Assembly estimates that it would take the withdrawal of around 9,000 amendments for article 7 of the pension reform to be examined. This sets the postponement of the legal age of departure at 64, against 62 currently, and concentrates the disputes.

A change of gear “largely insufficient”. This Monday, the Nupes changed its parliamentary opposition strategy by withdrawing a “thousand of amendments” on the pension reform, the examination of which has been seriously slipping since the opening of the debates in the hemicycle last Monday. But, for Yaël Braun-Pivet, president of the National Assembly and Renaissance deputy, “we must go much further”.

The elected representative of Yvelines indicates on RTL that “544 amendments” have been studied since the start of the examination of the text. There are still “more than 14,000”. “You can clearly see the difference between these two sums”, insists Yaël Braun-Pivet.

According to her, “if we want to continue to debate and talk about what interests the French and the unions […] there must be a massive withdrawal of amendments”.

9000 amendments to withdraw to reach article 7

At stake: Article 7, pushing back the legal retirement age from 62 to 64 years. So far, the left, led by La France insoumise (LFI), has slowed down the debates to defend its proposals but also to avoid a possible decline in the mobilization against the pension reform if this measure were to be adopted.

It returns responsibility to the government and to the legislative procedure chosen for this text, limiting its examination in the Assembly to twenty days.

Even if the withdrawal of around a thousand amendments reflects a shift, LFI hesitates between moving forward on the text and defending each amendment. Socialists, environmentalists and unions are pushing to go as far as Article 7.

To achieve such a scenario, “it would be necessary to withdraw almost 9000” amendments, according to Yaël Braun-Pivet. For the moment, we are far from it. Article two on the creation of a senior index has not yet been adopted.
