Woman found dead under stolen forklift in Maryland

A woman was found dead under a forklift early Sunday after the device was stolen in Waldorf, Maryland, police said.

Witnesses said the man broke into a Lowe’s store in the 2500 block of Crain Highway while the store was closed overnight, stole the forklift and fled, ramming the store’s doors.

Charles County Sheriff’s Office officers responded around 12:40 am but the man had already left.

Officers scoured the area and found the forklift in the parking lot of a Home Depot half a mile away on Jefferson Farm Place. Officers found the woman dead under the forklift.

“Based on additional information, it appears the suspect met the woman in the parking lot of the business, struck her with the forklift, and fled in his car,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

His identity was not immediately released. It was not clear if she knew the man who hit her.

The sheriff’s office said in a brief update Monday morning that a suspect was arrested and the woman’s car was found. No additional information was immediately released.
