Polish referee Szymon Marciniak admits making mistakes in the Qatar-2022 Argentina-France World Cup final. Errors that would have influenced the outcome of the match.

Unfortunate losers in the final of the Qatar-2022 World Cup, the French challenged the arbitration of Pole Szymon Marciniak. Indeed, they accused him of having made several errors which influenced the result of the match. Three actions are mentioned in particular.

The first is the penalty awarded to Argentina, from which Lionel Messi opened the scoring. According to them, there was no fault on Angel Di Maria in the penalty area.

The second is to deprive France of a penalty following a flagrant foul on Marcus Thuram in the penalty area. Finally, it is the third that makes people talk, namely the third goal signed by Messi in added time. Indeed, and when the latter pushed the ball into the back of the net, two substitutes for Argentina were already on the pitch. Which is, of course, prohibited by the rules. The Polish referee should therefore have refused this goal.

“Yes, there were mistakes”, recognizes Marciniak

In his latest media release, the referee in question admits having made mistakes during the Argentina-France World Cup final.

“Of course there were mistakes in this final. I interrupted a French counter-attack after a bad tackle from Marcos Acuna on …I misinterpreted the situation because nothing happened, I could have left the advantage and then come back to the foul by giving a card”. he acknowledges.

And yet, a few days ago, Szymon Marciniak replied curtly to the French. “There are serious newspapers and those who seek buzz. They are looking for the little beast. Obviously, a drowning man clings to anything. Even with a straw, even a razor…”.
