Nina Eim underlined her good early form in Yokohama, Japan. After seventh place at the start of the season for the international triathlon elite in Abu Dhabi (UAE), the 24-year-old just barely missed the top 10 in eleventh place at the second stop of the World Triathlon Championship series.

After 1:55.35 hours, the North German, who was able to make up numerous positions on the Olympic distance thanks to her strong running performance, was only five seconds behind Summer Rappaport (USA), who was in front of her.

When the British Sophie Coldwell (1:53:32) won, the other three German women missed out on the top 20. Laura Lindemann was 23rd at her first appearance in the 2023 competition year (1:56:43). Lisa Tertsch (1:56:44) and Marlene Gomez-Göggel (1:56:46) followed directly afterwards as 24th and 25th.

Schomburg best German

In the men’s race, Jonas Schomburg made it into the top 20 with 17th place (1:43:29). The Olympic starter from Tokyo 2021 was particularly convincing on the final four laps and made up ten places.

Valentin Wernz was 22nd (1:43:58), Lasse Priester 27th (1:44:30) and Johannes Vogel 29th (1:45:13).

Victory in the traditional race in Yokohama went to Hayden Wilde (NZL; 1:42:13).

Two para triathletes – two wins

Martin Schulz (PTS5) came back impressively in his first international race after second place at the world championships at the end of November last year.

At the second stop of the World Triathlon Para series, which also took place in Yokohama, the two-time Paralympics winner gave the competition no chance and crossed the finish line first after 56:52 minutes.

Max Gelhaar was also unstoppable in the PTS3 class. The World Championship third came out victorious after 1:07:57 hours.
