The future has begun in Bregenz. Since the end of December it has been clear how Bregenz-Mitte should develop in the future. After eleven hours of deliberation, a specialist jury chose the winner of the urban planning competition. Four national and international planning teams were awarded the contract in April of this year. In the course of the year, citizens were able to make their suggestions known twice.
In the end, the design by “StudioVlayStreeruwitz – belly plan – con.sens mobility design” won the race. Andrea Krupski von Mansberg, head of the urban development department, is convinced that this is a project of the century for Bregenz: “It is a high-quality inner city development. We have come to the right place. The project has the potential to put Bregenz in a completely different league of cities to catapult,” says Krupski von Mansberg on Friday at “Vorarlberg LIVE”.
The plans still need to be fine-tuned. For example, it had to be considered what kind of train station should be built. Krupski von Mansberg is in favor of an underground solution for the railway tracks. “The railway has a barrier effect. Hopefully rail traffic will increase in the future. I think it would be great if we could put the railway underground.”
