The tragedy that unfolded early in the morning on October 21 A40 in Bochum-Wattenscheid happened, stirred up the whole city, the whole Ruhr area and triggered a great wave of sympathy and help. Jens “Koschi” Koslowski came that day through no fault of one’s Wrong-way driver accident about life. He leaves behind two young children – a daughter (5) and a son (1) – and his woman (36). This has now, at the turn of the year, reported for the first time to speak.

Family father dies in wrong-way driver accident: the widow speaks for the first time

The old men’s footballers from SW Eppendorf, in whose team “Koschi” played, shared the words of Nathalie Koslowski on Facebook. They, the friends of the family man, were also the ones who stood in front of the family during the difficult times, shielded them – and collected a lot of money for them. A whopping 325,090 euros were collected for the bereaved via the Betterplace.org donation platform.

“I would like to thank everyone who has expressed their sympathy to us this year, be it through kind words or donations,” Nathalie Koslowski begins her contribution. It was more than 18,000 people. “And a sum that we can only marvel at and which of course takes away our financial worries in the difficult time.” Nevertheless, it has been difficult for her to write a greeting and a thank you, says Nathalie Koslowski.

“I felt uncomfortable at first, didn’t want the money, didn’t want the donations, didn’t want to understand that this great sympathy is for us – it was and is too unreal,” she writes. “The thought again and again: That can’t have happened to us! Jens can’t just be gone!”

“To this day it is incomprehensible for us, the family and also the friends and so bad that sometimes I hardly want to think about it.” And yet she really wanted to say “thank you” from the bottom of her heart at the turn of the year. “Because the sympathy (and I’ve read almost everything) and the solidarity of the people in the Ruhr area and beyond give us hope in these still difficult times.”

No one will be able to fulfill Nathalie Koslowski’s greatest wish

For 2023, she “wishes you all really only the best,” ends Nathalie Koslowski. “My greatest wish is that my husband would be here again – but unfortunately nobody can really fulfill that.”

On October 21, there was a serious accident on the A 40 with a 54-year-old wrong-way driver. Jens Kosloswski (35) was on his way to his workplace in Duisburg when the wrong-way driver’s Land Rover crashed into his Seat and the VW of a 36-year-old. The man from Bochum and the woman died at the scene of the accident, Sven Woitas, who was also involved, was seriously injured and is still suffering from the consequences today.

Shortly after the fatal accident, the family moved into their new home

Shortly after the tragic accident, the Koslowski family was about to move into their new home. A long-planned appointment that Jens Koslowski was no longer allowed to experience.

The fundraiser on the internet ended in mid-November. Organizer Martin Sonntag from SW Eppendorf points out that donations can still be made for “Koschi’s” survivors. However, only through personal contact. All information can be found on https://www.betterplace.me/wir-collection-for-koschis-familie .

It also says: “Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of this appeal. You all helped to at least take some of the family’s financial worries away. Nobody will forget this overwhelming solidarity.” Nathalie Koslowski’s words underline this.
