From the Hydrometeorology Department they stated that “we are under the ‘Yellow’ Risk Attention Level due to strong winds with maximum gusts of 70 km/h and storms of varying intensity, some strong this Sunday afternoon in La Plata.

According to the national meteorological service, “the area will be affected by a sudden and progressive change of winds to the south sector, with speeds between 35 and 50 km/h, with gusts between 60 and 80 km/h”, and that “the intensities stronger are expected on the Río de la Plata”.

As a result of this panorama, it is advisable to avoid driving on public roads and, in case of doing so in vehicles, drive slowly and with low beam headlights on.

Also remove pots or other objects that can be blown from balconies.

In cases of emergencies, residents can contact 103 Civil Protection and 911 Police; while to make claims or orders, they can do so at the 147 hotline. In the event of medical emergencies on public roads, they should call 107 SAME La Plata.

Flood prevention tasks were reinforced

With more than 600 municipal agents, cleaning operations were carried out on the storm drains and storm drains with the aim of optimizing the circulation of water.

The different communal crews face the procedures in three shifts: morning, afternoon and night; while in recent days those areas that have historically suffered flooding in the Party have been reinforced.

During this Sunday, the deployment took place in the area of the Italian hospital, Castelli park, northern neighborhood, Tolosa and in the main avenues and diagonals of the Party, among other points. In addition, from the municipality they indicated that “gangs will remain on duty throughout the day.”

In addition to the manual sweeping tasks and the use of machinery to vacuum up the litter, trucks are also working to clear drains and storm drains.

The latter have a double cistern and two hoses: one capable of ejecting pressurized water and the other designed to suck up mud, essential for unclogging pipes, drains and crossing pipes.

It should be noted that the Municipality of La Plata established the ‘Yellow’ alert level throughout the day due to the forecast of storms of varying intensity and strong gusts of wind.

In this context, last Thursday the local authorities convened a meeting of the Municipal Emergency Operating Committee (COEM) during which an action plan articulated by the different local areas was established. In this way, prevention and monitoring tasks are advancing in the different neighborhoods; while they ask citizens to avoid taking out the waste.

To keep up to date, the people of La Plata have the official information channels: the Facebook and Twitter accounts of the Municipality of La Plata; the official website laplata.gob.ar; the Twitter and Facebook ‘Civil Defense MLP’ and the Twitter ‘Climate MLP’.
