The representative of the Greens published an email addressed to her, peppered with threats and insults of the worst kind.

That politicians need a thick skin in times like these is nothing new. The dimension of the hatred that some representatives of the people are now facing seems to have reached a new level.

In an email addressed to a high-ranking Green Party politician, which she published on social media, an anonymous writer vented his anger. The hateful vocabulary employed by the writer of the lines is appalling.

“You just disgust me as a person…you piss me off”

In the letter to Bregenz Deputy Mayor Sandra Schoch, which is available to VOL.AT, the committed politician gets her fill.

“It’s not enough for you to make Bregenz gay, now you’re giving your support to terrorists (climate glue). … They disgust me. You Greens are the scum of society … I don’t care if you build a few more fags zebra crossings and Mongo Squares … They piss me off,” says the letter, which was signed and addressed to the politician with the words “With hated greetings”.

Reaction of the Bregenz Deputy Mayor

“There are Mondays that start like this. So much hate. Sometimes I can’t think of anything other than reporting. So much hate. So much hate, which is also fueled again and again by politics. Anyone who has Kickl in the channel gets it exactly the underpinning for his basic hatred. Comes blue/black in Vorarlberg and on the federal government, this hatred will show itself even more openly, against all the groups mentioned,” commented the deputy mayor of Bregenz on the lines addressed to her after she opened the mail published on social media.

Schoch: “The sound is getting sharper”

When asked by VOL.AT, Sandra Schoch confirmed that the tone, especially against women in politics, is getting rougher: “I have the feeling that the tone is getting sharper. But that’s also due to statements by certain politicians who unite with racist statements Open up a discourse that some find fertile ground. Apparently, such jargon is accepted.”

The climate-neutral orientation of the city of Bregenz is obviously a thorn in the side of many.

Of course, Schoch reported the e-mail and informed the sender accordingly. At least she did not receive any further e-mails, even if there was little chance of the author being prosecuted. “But it’s also important to me that these reports are registered and appear in the statistics. This is the only way to show that this problem, especially on the internet, shouldn’t be hushed up,” concludes Bregenz’s deputy mayor.
