At the unveiling of the ESC stage in Liverpool, King Charles III. Weaknesses in marksmanship – fortunately wife Camilla can be relied on.

Liverpool – On May 13, exactly one week after the coronation of King Charles III (74) and King’s wife Camilla (75), the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 will take place in Liverpool. Actually, the Ukraine would have been the organizer, because last year the Ukrainian band Kalush Orchestra won with the song “Stefania”. But due to the Ukraine war, the United Kingdom stepped in, which had taken second place in 2022 with “Space Man” by Sam Ryder (33).

He had a task: King Charles missed the button at the unveiling of the ESC stage

In Liverpool, King Charles and Camilla met the British singer Mae Muller (25), who is appearing at this year’s ESC with the title “I Wrote A Song”. “We will watch with great interest and cheer for you,” Charles promised, according to the BBC, Camilla jokingly added: “No pressure!” Muller replied optimistically that this year “feels like good energy, not zero points.” But the meeting with the British ESC representative was not the main reason for Charles’ and Camilla’s visit to Liverpool.

The royal couple had the ceremonial task of unveiling the stage for ESC 2023 in the M&S Bank Arena. However, King Charles and Camilla seemed unsure of exactly how the procedure should go. While those present loudly counted down the countdown, the monarch looked questioningly around the darkened hall while Camilla whispered something in his ear. After a little push, Charles then aimed his index finger at the big red button – and missed. Camilla only half hit the button, but still, it was enough to start the light show.

“Please make sure he didn’t break his finger”: Charles’ misadventure gets laughs

The slightly unsuccessful action provided the best entertainment on social media, but there was also mockery and malice for King Charles. “This guy is our king,” one Twitter user wrote. “Didn’t he really hit the button?” “He usually asks his servant for something like that,” suspects an ESC fan. The supposedly easy task causes incomprehension among many users. “My goodness Charles, you only had one job,” said one comment on Instagram. “Please make sure he didn’t break his finger.” Really nasty reactions can also be found under a video on Twitter: “No wonder Diana left him.”

King Charles will be able to get over it, after all his entire focus is on the upcoming coronation on May 6th. The performance in Liverpool proved once again that he can count on his wife Camilla, with whom he has now been married for 18 years. What Charles’ sons Harry, 38, and William, 40, really think of Camillarevealed Royal author Christopher Wilson (76) recently in an interview. Sources used: bbc.com, Twitter, Instagram
