• The first PS5 Pro kits could be available as early as this summer
  • Marketing could take place in September 2024
  • Towards games (finally!) in 4K 60 FPS?

For a few weeks now, after more than two years of shortage, Sony’s PS5 has now been visible in stores, evolving (finally!) freely in its natural environment. Enough to boost sales of the Japanese console, with no less than 6.3 million copies distributed worldwide, between January and March 2023, a new record. Soon, a new PS5 could arrive in stores, with the Pro version.

PS5 Pro coming soon… but why? For who ?

Indeed, manufacturers have been in the habit of offering a “revision” of their new game console for a few years now, generally 3 or 4 years after the release of the initial version. This was the case on the PS3 and Xbox 360 side with Slim models, while the PS4/Xbox One generation introduced, in addition to the Slim models, new Pro models, i.e. more powerful “mid-gen” machines, to take advantage of an optimized gaming experience. And that’s obviously what’s going to happen with the PS5.

The website Insider Gaming explains that Sony would already have in its boxes new projects concerning PlayStation. On the one hand, there is talk of the upcoming launch of a portable console that will be an extension of the PS5, but it is rumored that the first PS5 Pro development kits have already been offered to certain home studios, for availability this summer. Recall that the PS5 has already undergone three revisions, very discreet, with regard to its design.

In this way, Sony could be able to offer its new PS5 Pro by the end of 2024, with, we imagine, the optimization of many existing games, but also the launch of new titles, at even to illustrate the new power of the machine.

A more than realistic schedule

A timing that seems quite likely, since it would then take place 4 years after the release of the basic PS5. For its part, the PS4 Pro had been launched only three years after the marketing of the PS4.

There’s no denying the PS5 is a huge success and continues to curry favor with gamers, so much so that Sony recently announced upward targets with sales estimates of 30 million units sold for the new one. fiscal year that has just started.

It remains to be seen what improvements a PS5 Pro will bring compared to a standard PS5, apart of course from the eternal promise of the game in 4K and 60 FPS…
