15 months imprisonment for 20-year-old Iraqi who preferred to burgle instead of using his savings to finance cannabis consumption.

The 20-year-old fled to Austria with his family six years ago. He has been smoking cannabis since he was 17, most recently he organized the substance at the Dornbirn train station, paid ten euros per gram, he allegedly needed five grams a day. Over time it got expensive, the young man graduated from secondary school and wanted to be a hairdresser. He also saved up for a driver’s license. He apparently had 7,000 euros at home, around four to 5,000 euros came from him and the rest from his mother.

Broke in multiple times

In order to afford to use cannabis this summer, the young man walked around parking lots, tested which cars were open and took cash and wallets with him. “Although I had money at home, I wanted to save it for my driver’s license,” the accused explains to judge Dietmar Nußbaumer. “An interesting responsibility,” said the judge. The young man, who has already been convicted of aggravated robbery, among other things, is in custody. He gets 15 months for the burglaries, the verdict is not final.
