Young man who died after Broward nightclub shooting identified, reward offered for suspect

Broward police identified as Travis Turner, 29, the young man who died after a shooting at a nightclub in Lauderdale Lakes, last Tuesday morning and is now focused on the search for the suspect for which he is offering a reward to who shares information leading to their arrest.

At approximately 2:19 am Tuesday, Broward police received an emergency call about a shooting at the VYPZ Lounge, 4260 North State Road 7, in Lauderdale Lakes.

Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) officers and fire personnel rushed to the scene and upon arrival found Turner with gunshot wounds. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

A woman also linked to the incident was found with non-life-threatening injuries at a nearby hospital, BSO said.

On Thursday, Broward police said they are offering a reward of up to $5,000 to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest of the shooter.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Broward Crime Stopping Hotline at 954 493-TIPS (8477).

“It’s July 4th. The people inside were trying to have fun. Nobody knows why they shot,” said a witness, who was in the parking lot when the shooting broke out.

A worker in the area points out that the area is not very quiet. “Since today is a holiday, yesterday there was surely some activity and I would tell someone that something like this had lasted a long time,” said Federico Villamil.

Once on the scene, authorities focused their investigation on a black BMW vehicle that was towed from the scene.

“To be honest, I wasn’t surprised. I was waiting for it for a long time because this area is not very calm. I hope it doesn’t happen again because those are things that scare one,” added Villamil.

The Broward Police Homicide Unit is investigating the motives that led to this shooting.
