Recently released a multiplayer mod for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild caused a stir on the internet. The Youtuber “PointCrow” had explicitly offered $10,000 for people with the appropriate talent to equip the open-world title with a multiplayer feature. The Youtuber published the result of this work on his Discord server at the beginning of the month. Unsurprisingly, Nintendo was less than enthusiastic about this project. Numerous YouTuber videos were contested by Nintendo in the coming days.

The end of the multiplayer mod?

On April 12, “PointCrow” announced that it would remove the mod from its Discord server for the time being. Two days later, a video followed in which he described the dispute with Nintendo from his point of view. Not only many of his videos, but also the videos of some other people on YouTube were provided with copyright claims by Nintendo.

Two copyright strikes and a large number of removed videos followed for his channel. The company isn’t just targeting content that explicitly references mod projects. The Youtuber defends this by saying that one would not move outside of Nintendo’s “Game Content Guidelines”. It’s far from the first time that Nintendo hasn’t endeared itself to fans by enforcing its copyright. After all, fan games or other projects have already been dealt with in a similar way in the past.

More Nintendo news

At the beginning of the year, Nintendo was not exactly positive for many fans when it came to shares. Finally, the “Public Investment Fund” of the State of Saudi Arabia is and remains a relevant donor. At the same time, the focus is currently on the upcoming Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
