Broadway theater suggestions for this week

Frank Dilella, host of On Stage on our sister network NY1, shares with us his list of shows and plays that he recommends for this week.

Oscar nominee Rachel McAdams makes her Broadway debut in Amy Herzog’s “MARY JANE.” In this fiction, the actress embodies the story of a single mother in an impossible situation.

The show is currently in preview performances at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.

Its inauguration is scheduled for April 23.

With her latest play “Sally and Tom,” Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Suzan-Lori Parks addresses the complexities of American history. This comedy-drama explores the relationship of Sally Hemings and Thomas Jefferson through the world of theater. The play is in previews at The Public Theatre, with opening night April 28.

On the other hand, the play “Still”, starring Jayne Atkinson and Tim Daly, has already premiered and will be on stage at the DR2 theater until May 18.

The actors play Helen and Mark, a couple who reconnect after several decades without seeing each other.

As Mark runs for Congress, Helen harbors a secret that could interfere with her political career.

Another recommendation is the play “The Poisoner” or “El Envenenador” performed at the experimental theater club LA MAMA. This thriller from the playwright MM

Haney is inspired by the Flint, Michigan water crisis of the early 2000s. The work invites us to ask ourselves: “Will we ever be safe?” The show will run until this weekend.

And finally, a preview. Starting April 30, Broadway veteran John Riddle will bring his show “Blue Lady” to The Sultan Room in Brooklyn.

In the show, Riddle will tackle different musical genres, including disco, soul, pop and jazz. And as a special guest will be Broadway actress Caissie Levy.

To immerse yourself in the world of Theater, be sure to watch On Stage on weekends, presented by Frank Dillela from our sister network NY1.
