Solo Teatro Fest begins

The 5th edition of Only Theater Fest is about to begin with a multidisciplinary program, which is the way this annual event organized by the Artefactus Cultural Project company usually takes place.

The programming extends over several weekends, from Friday, April 26 to Sunday, May 26.

The festival highlights “the uniqueness of the work of the solo actor,” highlights Eddy Díaz Souza, director and coordinator of the programming, who for this event extends his invitation to international actors and companies to present their shows in Miami.

“The Solo Teatro Fest offers a rich selection of one-man shows that explore a wide range of themes and artistic styles. From intimate stories to deep social reflections, each performance promises to captivate the public with its originality and creativity,” is highlighted in the press release received in this medium.

On opening night, there will be the play The Hunt for the Johnson-Wang, performed by actor Alberto Menéndez. Based on selected texts from contemporary American literature, this play challenges theatrical conventions and offers a penetrating look at modern life. As the performer and director of the production suggests, “the title presupposes a hunt, a double harassment, because in addition to going after the characters that make up this peculiar family to dismember them, the production points to the target that, through metonymy, It is the society that represents that house, that compound surname.” Presentations on April 26, 27 and 28.

Marcela Ferradás arrives from Argentina to present Yuna soy yo, adaptation of the novel The Cousins ​​by Aurora Venturini, under the direction of Horacio Peña. “The work brings to the stage the fascinating story of the plastic artist Yuna Riglos, who throughout the speech with which she inaugurates the retrospective of her work, is assaulted by memories of her and by the characters who marked her life. her”. Performances on the weekend of May 3, 4 and 5.

On Friday, May 10, there is a pause in the scene, to give way to the poetry recital of the writer Ramón Fernández Larrea, who will take a tour of his poetic production. This recital by the 2014 winner of the Gastón Baquero International Poetry Prize, in Spain, for Todos los cielos del cielo”, will be at 8:30 pm.

The work The Caterpillar and the War, recently presented in the same Artefactus room, is also part of the festival. Text and direction by Eddy Díaz-Souza where “a symbolic narrative is offered about love, hope and perseverance amid the threat of war.” The play features performances by Simone Balmaseda, Tamara Melián, Anthony Lo Russo, Steven Salgado and Mylo Mur. On stage on Saturday, May 11.

The festival offers complementary activities, such as a workshop on stage lighting taught by Ernesto Pinto. “This workshop provides participants with the opportunity to learn the basics of professional lighting and improve their technical skills in the world of theater.”

For her part, actress Vivian Acosta will give a master class in which she will present “her knowledge and techniques for the actor, focused on the senses, without the need for external stimuli, to achieve a perceptual state and reach transcendental states in creation.” .

The stage activity continues with La Torera, written and directed by Viviana Cordero, with the interpretation of the Ecuadorian actress Valentina Quintero. This work portrays “the life of Anita Bermeo, a quirky, mythical character enshrined in the memory of all who knew her and generations who have heard about her legend.” The note adds: “through ten other characters from the city, we can appreciate the Quito of yesteryear and the passage of time during the decades of the 50s, 60s, 70s and eighties until she died.” Presentations on May 17, 18 and 19.

To close the Festival, Elektra is presented, version and direction by José González, based on the text by Tomás González, and with the performance of Vivian Acosta. The performances are scheduled for May 24, 25 and 26.
