The Olympic torch is lit in Greece

The flame of this summer’s Paris Olympic Games was lit this Tuesday in the cradle of the ancient Olympics in Greece.

The torch lighting ceremony has been a Games tradition since 1936.

During the 30-minute rehearsal ceremony, 48 performers participated, chosen for their resemblance to the youth of ancient Greece as they are seen in status and other art forms.

Greek rowing champion Stefanos Douskos passed the flame to three-time French Olympic medalist Laure Manadou.

According to authorities, the torch will travel more than five thousand kilometers through Greece before handing it over to French organizers at the Athens venue, where the first modern Olympic Games were held in 1896.

The llama will be transported by several runners throughout the country before being delivered to said authorities.

The torch will be carried by 600 bearers over the next three weeks to its final destination in France, where it will burn during the opening ceremony on July 26, remaining lit throughout the Olympic Games.
