Warner presents the trailer for the second installment of Joker at Cinemacon

LAS VEGAS.- The study Warner Bros. offered a look at its long-awaited sequel to Joker at the CinemaCon convention in the American city of Las Vegas, revealing their plans to take advantage of the box office success of Barbie from last year.

He stole all the attention from the event Joker: Folie à DeuxTodd Phillips’ sequel to the controversial original version that won an Oscar for its star Joaquin Phoenix and reinvented all the possibilities of superhero adaptations.

Joker, from 2019, offered a dark origin story of Batman’s future nemesis, Arthur Fleck, and polarized audiences by presenting its murderous villain as a hero, even sparking fears that he could inspire mass shootings. Rumors have swirled about the sequel, which will be released in October and features the pop superstar in the cast. Lady Gagaand has been described as a musical.

In the presentation of a new trailer, Phillips defined his latest work as: “a film in which music is an essential element.” She added that: “it doesn’t stray too far from the first film in that sense.”

“Arthur is strange, aloof and aloof, but he has the music inside him, he’s funny,” the director explained. “That influenced a lot of the dances in the first movie… so what we did here didn’t seem like such a radical step to me. It’s different, but I think it will make sense when you see it,” he concluded.

The trailer shows Phoenix’s Joker meeting Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn in an asylum, before the pair apparently plan their escape.

Other fanciful sequences show the couple dancing romantically on a moonlit Gotham rooftop and putting on an elaborate show. “I’ll tell you what’s changed. I’m not alone anymore,” the Joker says in one scene.

Phillips also thanked theater owners for supporting his first film of the year. Joker despite the controversy it created in 2019. That film grossed more than $1 billion.

CinemaCon

Warner’s presentation at CinemaCon also included images of the long-awaited sequel to the ’80s classic Beetlejuice, plus Robert Pattinson promoting a new science fiction film from the director of Parasite, Bong Joon-ho.

This annual event is an opportunity for Hollywood studios to present their upcoming films to movie theater owners around the world. This year, CinemaCon comes at a time when industry forecasts indicate that the annual global box office will decline, in part due to the impact of recent industry-wide strikes.

Actors and screenwriters paralyzed hundreds of Hollywood film and television productions last year, leaving huge gaps in current release calendars.
