10 Mexican festivals that no longer exist and that you may not have remembered

If something is very clear to us, it is that in Mexico we love music. It doesn’t matter if you’re a rocker, a metalhead or you prefer rancheras, in this country we can’t live without listening to our favorite songs, but if you’re a true music lover and you prefer the wonderful experience of checking out your favorite bands and artists live and in full color , we are sure that your life would be empty without the concerts or festivals that are organized everywhere.

For quite some time now, several important companies have organized events where, in one place and at an affordable price, you can see a lot of national and international acts on various stages. There are plenty of examples of success such as Vive Latino, Corona Capital, Tecate Pa’l Norte and many more, but there are also cases that did not have the same luck and had to disappear.

We are sure that these 10 disappeared festivals raffled off a lot

Especially in Mexico City and some of the largest cities in our country, We have seen how a lot of festivals have appeared with great lineups but for various reasons, their life span was extremely short.. Whether due to monetary problems, logistics or whatever, simply after surprising us with their posters, they left without saying goodbye to us and of course we miss them.

That is why this time we want to remember those festivals that were once among us but one day, they suddenly disappeared. It should be noted that this list does not have a specific numbering and we put it together with the help of all of you, dear fans. Motorokr Fest CDMX

In the mid-2000s, Motorola was one of the most important telephone brands in the world, and you could tell that because its cell phones were very popular. That is why, taking advantage of the fame he had in Mexico, between 2007 and 2008 decided to organize a festival in the Foro Sol in the capital of Chilangaand for two editions they presented us with an exceptional lineup mixing a lot of foreign bands with national talent.

To give you an idea, the brand brought artists like Nine Inch Nails, The Killers, Stone Temple Pilots, The Flaming Lips, Incubus, The Dandy Warhols, The Bravery, Paramore, The Kooks, and MGMT. Despite the fact that they set the bar very high and many of us expected it to establish itself as one of the most important musical events in CDMX, inexplicably they did not return, but we fondly remember their posters.

Zero Fest

Continuing with the brands that were encouraged to do festivals in Mexico, we have one of the largest on this planet, Coca-Cola. In 2008 and taking advantage of the fact that they had just released a new soft drink presentation, they presented us with the Zero Fest, a great event that took place on April 12 of that year in the famous Curve 4 of the Hermanos Rodríguez Autodrome with a poster that simply left us with a square eye.

Check the data, because in one place we had the chance to see The Smashing Pumpkins, My Chemical Romance, The Mars Volta, My Morning Jacket and Bright Eyes. In addition, they had the participation of Kinky, Austin TV, Chetes, Ely Guerra and even pop acts like Miranda! or Belanova. The show was a complete success and they even put together two more editions that same year in Guadalajara and Monterrey, but after that we never heard from the festival again.

manifest

Unlike some others on this list, the manifest It is one of the few cases that did have several editions during a certain time. It was in 2004 when their first lineup led by national artists appeared, but it was not until 2006 when they brought together The Delays, Dagger, Morning Runner, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Chetes, Instituto Mexicano del Sonido, Hello Seahorse! and more, who played in the Toreo de Cuatro Caminos.

However, the following year they would completely surprise us. By 2007 they moved to the Alameda Poniente Park where they managed to bring together gangs the size of Interpol, The Horrors, The Rapture, The Whitest Boy Alive, I Have It and more. In 2008 they raffled once again with the cartel, which included names like The Prodigy, 30 Seconds to Mars, Travis and Broken Social Scenealthough after this edition they disappeared forever.

MXBeat

Marlboro was another of the brands that dared to enter the world of festivals in our country and did so with the MXBeat. And the truth is that it didn’t matter if you smoked or not, because the important thing was the music and during 2005 and 2009 they organized several events in different states, the biggest being the one they organized in the Alameda Poniente Park, which later moved to the Center Dinámico Pegaso and where they managed to put together posters that blew our heads away.

So that you can see how cannons they were, they brought to Mexico for the first and only time the Beastie Boysalong with acts like Vampire Weekend, Phoenix, The Hives, Jarvis Cocker Cut Copy, MIA, The Cribs, Cold War Kids, Spoon, The Whitest Boy Alive, Cat Power, NERD, Primal Scream and Black Kids. Despite the fact that there were rumors that he would return in 2015, unfortunately we were left with the desire.

Crown Music Festival

okay, probably the Crown Music Festival whoever gave rise to Corona Capital, but it is important to remember the spectacular editions they organized. The idea –as well as the vast majority of the festivals on this list– was to create a place where they wereThe most important national bands of the moment combined with a couple of international acts great inside the Esplanade of the Azteca Stadium, and boy did they succeed.

During its two editions, they brought together artists such as Porter, Austin TV and División Minúscula with important names in the music industry such as Iggy Pop & The Stooges, Incubus, The Mars Volta, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Of Montreal, NOFX and more. Unfortunately, logistics meant that they stopped bringing artists from other parts of the world to focus on local talent, but years later they created one of the most important festivals in the country.

sonophilia

Leaving Mexico City and the metropolitan area a bit, in Jalisco there are also several festivals that unfortunately disappeared over time. One of them is sonophiliaorganized in Zapotlanejo and that despite only having two editions (and having practically no diffusion), in 2007 they managed to gather 18,000 attendees in their first year, all thanks to the fact that they brought Björk to our country for the first time.

For 2008 they bet a lot on the poster, since they had artists of the caliber of DJ Shadow, Röyksopp, Grace Jones, Fischerspooner, PNAU, Hercules & Love Affair, The Whip, Æther, Grafton Primary and Kavinsky. Although they were on the rise, presenting enviable lineups that we would like to see right now, it seems that things were not going well for them and they simply left for good.

One Music & Arts Festival

It seems incredible, but believe it or not, ten years have passed since the first edition of the One Music & Arts Festival. This festival was planned for 2011 inside the Six Flags Chinese Theater, but due to high demand they had to move it to one of the pavilions of the Palacio de los Deportes. And how could the public not be excited if artists like Crystal Castles, Chromeo and Holy Ghost!.

For 2012, the organizers moved the festival to the Infield of the Hipódromo de Las Américas, where they once put together a powerful lineup headed by none other than Justice, Avicii, Miami Horror, Breakbot, Martin Solveig and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. However, despite the fact that they caused a lot of expectation among fans from hell of electronica and pop, after this year they never came back into our lives.

Festival 72810

Puebla is also one of the states in our country that has shown that they love concerts and festivals. Currently they have several events that always break it by presenting sensational lineups, but in 2012 and for the only time, a festival called 72810 who burst in to bring music to one of the most spectacular places in that state: the Cholula pyramids with a poster that had a bit of everything.

Public Enemy, Modest Mouse, Peter Murphy, Blonde Redhead, Datarock and Z-Trip These were just some of the international acts that performed in that edition along with Bengala, Austin TV, Vicente Gayo, Technicolor Fabrics and many more in a day of lots of dancing and great songs. Despite the fact that they had a lot of talent to attract a huge audience, they left us with this one attempt and the desire to see more editions.

Machinery

Of course, in this list the metal touch could not be missing, because there have been a lot of headbanging festivals that completely disappeared. One of them was Machinerywhich in 2012 and during a weekend, presented several spectacular bands at the Arena Ciudad de México and the Explanada López Mateos in Guadalajara, one of those lineups that doesn’t ask for anything from any other big metal festival.

Marilyn Manson, Deftones, The Prodigy, Slayer, Stone Sour, Mastodon, Gogol Bordello and Cavalera Conspiracy They were just some of the acts that were presented that year. Of course they left a lot of expectation for what could be a second edition, but just like everyone else we’ve talked to, he left without saying goodbye, leaving the way clear for other events of this type in our country.

Goliath Festival

Last but not least, we have a festival that even we didn’t remember anymore, the goliath. Once again, the Alameda Poniente received a massive musical event in 2009 that, in addition to incorporating special areas and creating activations for the attendees, presented an extremely large poster that included a bit of everything with the idea that in this place you could see the artists that you could basically put together in a playlist.

just imagine that Black Eyed Peas, Pitbull, Calle 13, Justice, Fischerspooner, Crystal Castles, Chromeo and Perry Farrell they shared the stage at this strange festival. As weird as this lineup was, they brought together a ton of people who liked it to throw the tasty dance with all these artists. However, despite the fact that they had a great reception and won over an audience, sadly they never returned.

What other missing festival would you add to the list?
