office (sco) The new calendar year begins. The ecclesiastical turn of the year was already a few weeks ago. A high point in the early church year was the presentation of the diocesan medal of merit.

Mina Mayr, Birgit and Manfred Kramer were honored at the Mass celebrated by Father Guido Kobiec and Chaplain Mag. Yesudas Kattithara together with the parish of Bürs; they had brought it together to 150 years of voluntary work. For these people, their actions were always seen as one selfless performance of public service. The esteemed personalities received, after an appropriate laudatory speech, in the presence of the pastoral care room representatives Astrid Honold and Thomas Folie, from the head of the diocesan finance chamber, MMag. Andreas Weber, representing Bishop Benno Elbs, the Diocese Medal of Merit. “Without volunteering, parish life, as it has been working in Bürs for decades, would not be possible. One can don’t appreciate this form of cooperation enough”said Weber to the numerous trade fair visitors.

On behalf of the political community, Mayor Georg Bucher thanked them for their exemplary commitment. Gerda Schuler, Maria Auer and Otmar Bürkle also brought gifts of thanks as representatives of the parish and parish council. In her 60 years of activity in many areas, Mina Mayr was the driving force for a wide variety of activities that ensured cohesion in the parish, even in very difficult times. A long-term sponsorship initiated by her guaranteed that priests would be manned throughout. Many reports in the parish newspaper came from her pen and for years she organized the Rorate breakfast for the children.

Committed personalities

Birgit Kramer was the initiator of the well-known book bazaar, from which a large sum of money could be earned for urgently needed renovation measures at the Martinskirche and Friedenskirche over the past 13 years. Before that, she and her team expanded what was then the parish library into a reading center for children and adults that is indispensable today. Manfred Kramer, who has been a member of the parish church council for 40 years, including 25 years as its deputy chairman, and his team have for decades ensured that the two churches and the associated social rooms are preserved by carrying out necessary renovation and improvement work.
