Mexico City.- -Three women and 18 men who were in prison for non-serious crimes were released on Christmas Eve.

Authorities in Mexico City detailed that the three women were in detention at the Santa Martha Acatitla Women’s Center for Social Reintegration.

Two of them were released on conditional release and one more for early release. Since 2019 there have been 73 women who have benefited from their release before serving their sentence.

As for the men, 11 left the Oriente, Sur and Norte prisons, three from the Santa Martha Acatitla Men’s Social Reintegration Center, two from the Penitentiary and two more from the North Men’s Penal Sanctions Execution Center.

The capital authorities detailed that the majority of the men were creditors of the benefit of partial remission of the penalty.

“In other words, during their stay in prison they not only complied with the comprehensive plan for social reintegration, but they were also working inside the prison, which allowed them to reduce their sentence by 1 day for every 2 days worked.” , it was detailed.

“Damage repair was covered in cases of inmates who did not have the resources to do so. The capital’s Private Assistance Board managed the donation with Monte Pío Luz Saviñón, who through Monte Sinai IAP and Caritas AC carried out the payment,” added the capital’s government.

With these 21 releases, the 2022 program was closed, which seeks to facilitate the release of those who are in prison with health problems, originating from indigenous peoples and communities and who, according to authorities, are serving irrelevant sentences for reinsertion purposes.
