Mexico City.- The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) acknowledged that there is a “high level of coincidence” between the bachelor’s thesis of Minister Yasmín Esquivel and Edgar Ulises Báez, also a student at that institution.

Without mentioning them by name, the National University indicated that this conclusion stems from a comparison carried out by the General Directorate of Libraries and Digital Information Services.

“When carrying out the detailed comparison of the professional theses of a student from the Faculty of Higher Studies (FES) Aragón, presented in 1987, with that of a student from the Faculty of Law, supported in 1986, the General Directorate of Libraries and Digital Information Services of this University found that there is a high level of coincidence between both texts”, he affirms.

According to the statement, the result of the analysis will be made known to the FES Aragón Academy Integrity Committee, so that it can carry out the corresponding review.

“The result of the aforementioned analysis will be made known to the Academic and Scientific Integrity Committee of the FES Aragón, the body in charge of reviewing the case, respecting due legal process and in strict adherence to the procedures and times established in university regulations” , he pointed.

Last Thursday, Minister Yasmín Esquivel Mossa defended that her thesis was not plagiarized through a couple of letters published on her social networks.

One of them is a letter from whoever was her thesis advisor Martha Rodríguez Ortiz, a professor at FES Aragón, in which the academic says that the thesis presented by Esquivel Mossa is “original.”

Esquivel Mossa also released a letter signed by the lawyer Javier Carreón Hernández, who was a synod in the professional exam and who pointed out that the then intern had an outstanding performance in the test.

If the authorities of the UNAM confirmed a plagiarism of Esquivel, and with this they determined to annul her degree, she would be prevented from being a Minister of the Court, since she did not have the provisions of article 95, paragraph 3, of the Constitution: “Possessing the day of the designation, with a minimum seniority of ten years, professional title of Bachelor of Law, issued by authority or institution legally empowered for it”.
