24 people die when a bus falls into a ravine in central Morocco

Twenty-four people died when the bus in which they were traveling plunged into a ravine on a highway in the province of Azilalin the center of Morocco.

As reported this Sunday by local authorities, the vehicle was heading to the weekly souk of the town of demand when the driver lost control due to a curve on regional highway number 302 at the level of the town of Akhachanefrom the municipality of Boulakhlaf, and fell into the ravine.

Once alerted, the local authorities and members of the Royal Gendarmerie and Civil Protection went to the scene of the event to take the necessary measures, the sources said, adding that an investigation was opened, under the supervision of the prosecutor, to determine the causes of the accident.

According to the news portal moroccoworldnewsthe deceased were immediately transported to the regional hospital of sue to be identified and prepared for their final journey back to their families.

The number of victims of traffic accidents continues to increase in Morocco.

Earlier this week, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) of the country announced in a statement that 11 people died and more than 2,000 were injured in 1,771 traffic accidents that occurred within urban areas during the week of July 24-30, 2023.

The accidents were mainly caused by drivers who did not adhere to road safety measures.
