The New York Yankees are emerging as the main candidates to acquire Shohei Ohtani in the exchange market, according to various reports from MLB analysts.
The Japanese star is in his last year of contract with the Los Angeles Angels and it is believed that in Anaheim they will change their minds and put him on the market before losing him in free agency in the Major Leagues.
Ohtani would be an impact acquisition for the Bronx team, which is the ideal candidate to negotiate the arrival of the Japanese for several reasons.
If the Yankees really want to convince the Angels to give up Ohtani, they have a good case in their farm system. The upper echelons are known to be reluctant to give up top prospects like Jasson Dominguez, but there’s enough talent in the New York minor leagues to offer names that can be dealt with.
It will not be enough to deliver his main promises, the cost of the two-way Japanese player goes further. Ohtani’s market value as a free agent this winter is said to be around $600 million and in the Bronx, while they have multi-million dollar commitments, there is enough financial strength to compete for the Japanese.
The Yankees are the most winning World Series team in MLB history, although they have not reached this instance in more than a decade. Ohtani has said that he wants to go to a team he can play with in the playoffs and in New York that goal is pretty much guaranteed every year.
With his home runs and his performance as a pitcher, Ohtani has several seasons equaling or leaving behind centenary records of Babe Ruth, baseball icon and the New York Yankees. What better than coming to the Bronx to be his full-fledged heir?
