The first trailer for the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is just over two minutes long, with most of the time devoted to the animals of the forest. The food chain is the highlight until the appearance of Naked Snake, confirming rumors of a reimagining of the PlayStation 2 classic and the return of the franchise with so many fans around the world.

In the teaser, we see little about the game and nothing of the gameplay. Still, KONAMI has hidden some references to the original and small details that show an attention to aspects of the original Snake Eater, with the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 being described as a new version that preserves its basic elements, but reintroduces them with modern gameplay and greater fluidity for players.

Thinking about it, the Canaltech listed 6 details you didn’t notice in the trailer for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and that showcase more than just the new version of Big Boss and details of the fauna.

6. The Parrot of The End

The element that had everyone looking forward to during the trailer presentation during the PlayStation Showcase was this bird, which appears longer than the Naked Snake himself. who played Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater know, however, that this is none other than the faithful companion of The End, one of the game’s bosses.

The 100+ year old sniper feels the weight of time, which has taken a toll on his body but not his aim. Using camouflage, he hides in the forest and uses the parrot as a “spotter”, warning him of the approach and location of the enemy. His appearance in the remake’s teaser, although brief and full of other elements, indicates that the moment shown is precisely the fight against The End (or an earlier moment, since the bird is looking for lunch).

5. The ultimate weapon (of the time)

One detail speaks against this theory, however. In the background during the kite’s flight, we can see one of the main threats of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, albeit quickly. In the distance, another moment straight from the original game is referenced when we see the Shagohod being transported by three military helicopters.

It’s a direct nod to the end of the first act of the original, when Naked Snake, injured, watches the nuclear tank being driven away from a research base in the region. The autonomous tank carried a nuclear warhead and could move at high speeds, serving as an important weapon — and provocation — during the height of the Cold War.

It is also worth mentioning that Shagohod is considered one of the forerunners of the Metal Gear project, which gives its name to the entire franchise. Although it is more like a traditional war tank, it was its development that gave rise to the machines that would later get in the way of Solid Snake and represent a global threat.

4. Animals are food, not friends

The name of the game already says: in Metal Gear Solid 3, one of the central elements of Snake is food. Sent alone and with little equipment to a distant forest, the character needs to manage to get weapons, heal his wounds and, above all, keep his stomach full, since no spy can act without a good lunch.

With the exception of ants, all other animals seen in the trailer can become food in the hands of the player, who needs to be careful with poisons, such as the frog that appears in the video, and other environmental elements. The crocodile seen in the video is also the centerpiece of one of the protagonist’s disguises, a hat that allows him to hide under water like a wild animal.

3. Camouflaged (or not)

the franchise Metal Gear has stealth as one of its core bases. After all, its protagonists are used to being sent without much equipment to the center of the battlefields, having to use espionage techniques to obtain resources, attack enemies or avoid them. That’s even where the title Naked Snake given to the protagonist of the remake comes from.

no teaser for Metal Gear Solid Delta, we see the character dressed in one of the novelties of the third game, the camouflages. Throughout the game, the future Big Boss goes through different biomes, being able to wear different clothes according to each environment, making it difficult for enemies to detect.

Under water and in dense forest, the main character appears wearing the Tiger Stripe camouflage, the first to be released in the game and used by him from the beginning. Face painting helps to increase stealth, while throughout the title, somewhat bizarre versions appear, including an option inspired by James Bond and not at all suitable for use in a mission in the forest.

2. Delta formula

Players’ attention was drawn to the decision to change the game’s nomenclature in this reimagining. Even though everyone refers to the ad as the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3, Konami decided to change the numeral to a Delta symbol, while retaining the Snake Eater subtitle. It’s the same game, but also an indicator of something new.

The explanation about this came later, through social networks. In the official profile of the franchise, Konami clarified that the meaning of Delta is related to the concept of this remake, symbolizing changes or differences without the original structure being modified. There are those who also point to the three sides of the triangle as an indicator that this is, again, the third game in the saga.

1. White and then red petals

Artistic symbolism is one of the main hallmarks of the work of Hideo Kojima, creator of Metal Gear. In one of the most iconic images of the franchise, who knows even in the history of games, the final battle between Naked Snake and his mentor, The Boss, takes place in a field of white flowers, which are dyed red by the blood of combat.

Such elements also briefly appear towards the end of the teaser, when the title’s Delta explodes to display the rapidly changing color petals. In the background, Snake Eater, by Cynthia Harrell, the classic theme from Metal Gear Solid 3 and another clear inspiration in the classic James Bond films.

It was enough to get everyone excited. The wait, however, may still be long, as Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, does not yet have a release date. The remake of the third game in the saga will come to PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S.
