Emmanuel Macron paid tribute to actor Michel Cordes of “Plus belle la vie”, found dead Friday at the age of 77.

“For millions of French people, he was a smile, a face, a role”. The Head of State paid tribute to actor Michel Cordes who died on Friday at the age of 77, who played a central character in the series More beautiful life.

“Behind this incarnation and this eloquence, hid a sensitive and secret man, who left us on May 5, 2023 at the age of 77”, wrote Emmanuel Macron in a press release on Saturday, before sending his condolences to the close to the artist.

“An actor who marked the history of our popular television”

In this text, Emmanuel Macron remembers with emotion the character of Roland, owner of the café Le Mistral in the cult television soap opera in this emblematic series of France 3, who “appeared with accent, bonhomie and humanity an art of living and conviviality in which millions of viewers recognized themselves”. He and his wife salute “the memory of a comedian from the heart, who marked the history of our popular television”.

President Emmanuel Macron also recalls “the two intangible passions” of the actor, namely sculpture and the south of France, described as “perpetual refuge” for Michel Cordes.

According to the Montpellier prosecutor’s office, the actor was found dead at his home on Friday afternoon after “voluntarily killing himself with a firearm”. An autopsy will be performed early next week to confirm this track.
