Junior Benítez was arrested in the framework of an investigation into three acts of gender and family violence against his ex-partner and family.

According to reports, the former soccer player hit his former father-in-law in the face when he went to the home of Rodríguez Peña 681, in the Buenos Aires town of Adrogué, looking for his daughter, who according to her father is a victim of gender violence but refuses to formalize the complaint.

The former player with a past at Xeneize, Lanús, Atlético Tucumán and other teams was accused of “aggravated coercion for the use of a weapon in a real contest with damage, threats and disobedience.”

The arrest warrant was issued by Judge Gabriel Vitale, following the request of prosecutor José Luis Juárez, from UFI No. 12, specialized in crimes related to gender violence and family violence.

Judicial sources told Télam that the player “was not in his right mind and was in a very disturbed state”, for which he was referred to the Lucio Meléndez Hospital in the area, once he was reduced by the police.

Benítez reacted in the worst way when the troops asked for his identification and tried to physically attack them, although without causing any injuries.

A few years ago he had been arrested for beating and threatening his girlfriend and father-in-law.
